Social Equality

Our country is a country founded on the idea that everyone is equal. Many of us also have closely held beliefs that sometimes are at odds with others ideals. While I greatly respect that everyone has the right to their own beliefs and ideas, we cannot take away the rights of people who we disagree with. I will vote down any legislation that hampers the rights of any citizen. I stand behind the rights of everyone equally just as the constitution was written. I believe, above all else, that everyone was created equally and I will fight for that belief every day.

I fully support women’s rights. Women should have the same rights as everyone else. They should be able to choose the care and treatment they want for their own bodies. Women should be paid the same for the same work, and especially should not be discriminated against for a particular position. If a woman can do the same work as a man, they should have the same opportunity and pay. While personally I am pro-life, I am a supporter of pro-choice. It is not the governments job to tell a woman what is in her best interest based on someones beliefs. A decision on a women’s body and health should be entirely between a woman and her healthcare provider. There should be no question to that.

I support the LGBT community.  I will vote down ANY legislation that restricts the rights of the LGBT community because the people affected are citizens too. Our countries founding documents were clear that “All men are created equal”, and I can assure you that they did not just mean men. Everyone in this country has the same rights as the next person regardless of their beliefs.

Here is my stance:

I don’t care what color your skin is, what religion you believe if any, or if you prefer men or women; you have the same rights as everyone else. I will fight to ensure that no one takes that away from you.
