Welcome, my name is Shawn Rundblade and in 2018 I need your support during the midterm elections for the U.S. House. I’m running for the 5th Congressional District in Wisconsin, which will be a big hill to climb. I will be up against Republican Rep. James Sensenbrenner who has held office since 1978. I think that is far too long for anyone to hold a particular seat.
I hope to change that in 2018. It has become quite clear that the 2018 midterm elections will be one of the most important elections for our future. Our freedoms are being challenged, the foundation of our country is being attacked, and we are facing a division in our country that we haven’t seen in decades. My goal as congressman will be to promote unity and peace, and to help move our country forward. I will stand up for the average American because I am an average American. I know what it’s like to be worried about the next month being a little tight on money, or what would happen to my family if I got sick or hurt.
I am running under the Democratic banner, though I look forward to working with the moderate Republicans who are willing to work across the aisle. My goal is simple: I want to take care of our people, make our economy stronger, and move our country forward. I was moved and motivated by the Bernie Sanders movement, and pushed to finally run due to the results of the November elections. Please be sure to visit The Issues page to see a more detailed view of where I stand.
Here are the major points of my platform:
- Equality for everyone, no matter the race, religion, sexual orientation, or ideology. Individual freedoms expressed in our constitution are respected.
- Healthcare for everyone is a basic human right. The United States in the only major country that does not provide healthcare for all of its citizens. We need to take a stand and ensure that everyone has care if they get hurt, or become ill and need care. A person should not have to choose between bankruptcy, life or death based on their ability to pay for medical treatment.
- Immigrants played an integral role in the building and development of our country. While I agree we need to clarify reforms on immigration, we cannot turn our backs on those who have come to our country for a better life, and want to contribute to our already great country. Deporting 11 million people that are contributing to our economy would be a disaster not just for the families of those affected, but for our country as well.
- I have a six year old daughter, and I want to be sure that she has the best education that she can get. I want to work with education professionals and find ways to fix our districts that are under-performing. We are no longer competitive in the global market from an education standpoint. Preparing our young people for global knowledge toward their successful future is a great goal that we all can embrace.
I look forward to having your support and working to represent you, the people, when I’m elected. I am a huge supporter of being open and available to the people and I invite you visit my Reach Out page to leave feedback and ask questions.
